Dearest Stan,

I am alive for a trifector of reasons: My best friend Cricket, my therapist and meds.

Around 2000, I started my ongoing journey of psych units. The doctors told Cricket that she should be ready for me to die. They had not seen a case as bad as mine live.

The third time in the hospital, in the worst decision of my life, I agreed to ECT, a choice I would never have made in a healthy mind.

My boyfriend, Cricket and others tried to talk me out of it, to no avail. I understand that I went through over twenty shocks. I cannot recall 2000-2003, or so. My photographic recall is shot.

I watched 9/11 unfold, but I remember none of it. Some say this is a blessing, but it is not. Cricket watched the same films I picked out, time and again, until I began to recognize them.

They ignored my lacerated wrists, even though Cricket pointed this out. They have no idea of the damage they inflict. I could not have cared less about my life at that time. I just wanted to be knocked out.

They may be able to get me again. The Medical Power of Attorney I have signed over to Cricket, apparently doesn't apply to my mind. Mental Health disparity is sick and it is strong.

Thank you so much for the amazing, generous and wonderful award. I will work on it. I am just coming up for air, so please be patient!
