Nothing pisses me off more than a person who claims to be bipolar for profit. As d, as bipoloarchicksblogging says, bipolar is a diagnosis not an excuse. I've spent years trying to keep my bipolar disorder a secret from most people. Now, whenever a famous person gets in trouble, all of a sudden they are "BIPOLAR". People like McPimp write books and pretend to be an expert. That's just BS. I've yet to meet a person who is really and truly bipolar using it as a means to just make money or get out of trouble. I'm not talking about real bipolars who have written books or come out of the bipolar closet to help others. Just the slimey ones who profit for themselves.
OK...I'm done. Thanks for letting me rant.
Peace be with you Stan
I haven't read Kay Jamison that I know of, but I am pretty sure from the way McManamy defender her your are probably right.
What I found interesting (besides the one commenter calling Mcpimp "Peter Kramer of the bipolar world) was he answered the comments by saying, "I have witnessed the mapping of the human genome, the identification of suspect genes, the isolation of brain pathways that affect certain behaviors, new meds on the market, new ways to apply old treatments, diagnostic refinements too numerous to mention, the rise of the recovery movement, and on and on."
Notice he never said, "found proof there is an illness called mental," "found any proof there is a 'brain chemistry' problem," or "published conclusive proof that the placebo effect isn't the only positive effect of anti-psychotics."
Another myth he alludes to is the "choice" myth. Yea its a choice for all those well paid, well insured people, but when you go to the public health department then "choice" is bullshit.
The brilliant Roman aristocracy drank out of pewter goblets. They went insane from lead poisoning. I've always wished that all psychiatrists were made to take their own poisons, so if McPimp wants to toast Caesar its OK by me.
Even within what he says there is plenty to raise one's eyebrows. No one has "[mapped] the human genome." Think about what exactly what a "suspect gene" is. A suspect profession, looking for a suspect illness, to be treated with suspect drugs, with suspect results, is because of a "suspect gene?" Duh!
People who need help with problems need help with those problems, not this turning the people into commodities and warehousing them with drugs.
Remember a man is judged by his enemies. Keep up the good works.

Dear Readers:
It appears that McPimp aka "SAL" has gone to the desperate level of writing comments to himself in the tradition of "HERB" of many id's and faces fame.
I'm sure Herb is going to be upset your using his MO Johnny Boy!
This is really a nice attempt on being the sleazy con man you are Johnny Boy; Yet it really only elevated you to the level of a sociopath.
I can only imagine from what I have heard about you from your ex's, your next move down the proverbial ladder of life will be rubber blow up dolls that you prerecord voices too.
McPimp is a prime example of his favorite TV show "LOST". He's a card carrying member of the Bipolar child myth with renowned drug the kids anti-advocate group; with members such as Biederman, Goodwin, Nemeroff, MacFadden, Jamison, Torrey and like mad medication minded others.
I can honestly say, if McPimp wasn't such a pathetic loser using his fake non drug compliant bipolar label to con in the babes and others; I would have to just laugh him off as a cheap kniock off version of a lone voice standing for nothing but his own self serving interest.
Stan
I have cut and pasted the conversation John McPimp had with himself on the comment section of his blog. This is pretty funny stuff {Laughing}

You're giving Stan a bigger podium than he deserves.
He's a provocateur who's done nothing in life aside from fighting with everyone and bitching all the time.
I was his friend a few years ago, many were NO ONE is anymore...

Hi, Sal. I totally agree with you about giving people like Stan a bigger podium than they deserve. I would much rather be writing about issues that relate to our self-knowledge and our recovery, but every once in a while I need to draw attention to the idiots who claim to speak in our name.
As your comments imply, we are dealing with very unpleasant people who do not have their behavior under control.
Just about everyone with a brain is sick of them, judging by the comments to this blog post and the number of visits this post has drawn.
Every once in a while, tough, I feel compelled to confront their stupidity with facts, but - be assured - I will never lose sight of what this blog is really all about.
Welcome to "Knowledge is Necessity," Sal. Please keep coming back and posting.
