California wants to drug its way out of a deficit

Lawmaker Introduces Bill to Legalize Marijuana, Could Bring $1.4B to California

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/07/15/lawmaker-introduces-legalize-marijuana-bring-b-california/

This story is truly amazing considering that California has long been at the forefront of the "Nanny State Laws" and movement which has curtailed and taxed cigarette smoking and tobacco products every place short of God's green earth and your own closet.

But when it come to our government, its really never about the real issues at hand; but always about the MONEY in sleazy cigar smoke filled back rooms with greedy deal making of the most egregious kind.

If government was really concerned about your Health, they would have made cigarettes illegal decades ago.
But cigarettes are a Golden Cash Cow they can go to any time they want to spend more of the citizens money or need a hot whipping post pet issue to promote.

Of course they want everyone to believe they are looking out for your best interest while demonizing those damned evil smokers; well all the while they are just taking an addictive habit they once backed, supported, and actually help create all the way to the bank and deep into your pockets.

If you haven't opened your eyes to reality lately; you should notice that our so called government leaders did this same slight of hand trick with gambling. Now there are more casino's dotting the inner state hwy than you can virtually shake a stick at.

So now its come time once more to find another cash cow so to speak. From all research I have read on this subject, the smoke from pot is no less a health concern than cigarettes.

So how does government run the end around on Joe Citizen this go around?

Maybe the slogan can read like this "We need the money, and the black market is making a killing on the product anywise".

The absolute hypocrisy of it all is completely staggering to be bluntly honest here.

Now, lets just sit back and see how they package, market, and sell this bill of naughty goods to the voters.

My personal opinion on Legalizing POT! I don't really care one way or the other to be truthful. I don't use it, but if others choose too, it should be their own damned business.

It surely does less perceived or proved damage than alcohol consumption, and many other drugs that doctors in America hand out like candy on a daily basis for huge profits while doing very little to bring or insure good health of the consumer.

So will we soon add another Cash Cow to the herd that government can use to milk the population?

OK, maybe this should be the real question we should ask are representatives.

How in the heck does getting the population drugged up/high solve anything including long term budget deficits and out of control government spending?

This as a budget solution appears not to pass the POT smoke smell test.

You might wonder to yourself what these masquerading clowns in government will come up with next!

Well, in Germany they have a 50% tax on legal prostitution. I guess government could finally say they have screwed you over and meant every word honestly.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just a little added food for thought. You have to wonder how many of these following California funded government departments could be cut or eliminated if representatives were serious about fixing a deficit budget crisis?

This is just one state, but it is representative of others I'm sure.

A list of government offices, departments, bureaus, agencies, well, you’ll get the point. Government runeth over. Do you think there’s room in this to save a buck or two?

Hasn't happened yet, but my 2 cents.

The religion of "marijuana is bad" has failed in the U.S..
The religion of "alcohol is bad" STILL works in countries who have the Islam religion.
Conclusion: Religion in the US is weak?

Government is just doing the old "if you can't beat em, join em"

from the art of war
When ten to the enemy's one, surround him; When five times his strength, attack him; If double his strength, divide him...

when the enemy is everyone "join em"

By at least 1 account California Porkocrats have spent the state $69 Billion into the red. In May California voted, and for Once, told its Legislature to Go To Hell on every item to raise revenues.

If the states Vote whores gave a Rat's Butt about Anything beyond Every Special Interest Group that offered them Campaign Money they wouldn't be in this fix.

They've completely destroyed their Own cash cow by driving California's revenue base Out of the State. For decades now everybody with 10 cents has been fleeing their Redistributive 'Empowerment' crap.

California Used to be the World's 7th largest economy. Today the State itself is on the brink of bankruptcy, but they've Still got Plenty of money to sell Psych Poisons to kids.

If California needs Money, I can tell them where to find it in a Heartbeat.

Peace be with you Stan

I agree mostly. I don't know what you've been reading, but "the smoke from pot is no less a health concern than cigarettes," is not correct. Thought we pot activists have been screaming for years that there was and is absolutely zero empirical evidence that cannabis smoking causes any of the respiratory damage that cigarette smoking causes. The case that pot is just as bad as cigarettes came from the faulty logic that because you smoke pot like you smoke cigarettes they must cause the same damage. Now however researchers have discovered what the hippies have been saying all along. I refer here to lung cancer, not about the earth dying because we continued living our consumptive lifestyles.

Even if I didn't partake of the sacred herb, which I do, I would still want it available to those who still nurture their additive natures. I mean running into 12 stoners is sometimes better than running into 12 tweekers, especially if they got badges.

Free the weed!

"How in the heck does getting the population drugged up/high solve anything including long term budget deficits and out of control government spending?"

1 how many are in prison for Pot crime? They would all get out?
SAVE MILLIONS here.
2 you said it, Taxs of cigarettes is a big moneymaker. Legal quality pot will sell.
3 as it is legally sold+ taxed by the Gov. drug producers/runners will lose millions, thereby losing power.like the Mob lost when alcohol prohibition ended.
4 legal pot will not have speed acid meth or crack added to it. Stoners will be more healthy and maybe more level-headed/sane.

Dear Mark P.S.

I believe the point I am attempting to make here is that a government that has a spending addiction doesn't need another cash cow to milk the population with.

Legal cannabis is fine as far as I'm concerned, but when you leave it completely in government hands; who do you think will profit from this legislation in the end.

There is no doubt it will free up some prison beds and curtail some illegal drugs trades. But you would have to wonder about other problems it could possibly create that will cost the tax payers.

we are talking about a drug which has the power to alter normal functioning. The consequences with addiction and under the influence crimes have the strong potential to increase.

I can almost see Philip Morris and R J Reynolds salivating over the possibilities. While government spending and intrusion into the lives of those they represent increases.

We don't need to create more taxes; we need to create a new era of ethical and responsible government in my humble opinion.

D Bunker said...

Ethical and Responsible Govt? Oh Jeezus. If that List of all the Govt California already has isn't enough, ......

DSM-IV-TR Billing Code 305.20: Cannabis Abuse

And there's another half dozen cannabis Billing Codes as well in Pharma's Sales Manual.

PM & RJR won't be the only ones making a buck here.

Cal Govt will skin the populace going both ways. Tax it in order to fund ruining and hanging people with Psych Diagnoses/Poisons for using it.
